As one of the most representative contemporary art fair in China. Art Shenzhen 2018 was held at the Shenzhen Convention and Exhibition Center from 14-17th September, 2018.

“Twinkling Stars Landed on Earth- the Stories of Autistic People” Micro-Movie Has Been Successfully Premiered
Hosted by Macau Association for the Mentally Handicapped, together with the support of BLANC ART Gallery and Yang Lok (Home for Intellectual Disabled), the premiere of “Twinkling Stars Landed on Earth- the Stories of Autistic People” micro-movie has successfully taken place at Escola Hou Kong, on January 27th afternoon.

BLANC ART Gallery has brought about this collaboration between Macau Association for the Mentally Handicapped and Apple Store in the production of this micro-movie, aiming to raise public attention to the situation of autism in Macau while uncovering the creative talents of autistic people through the process of film-making. With the assistance of the volunteer team from Apple Store, students and staff of Macau Association for the Mentally Handicapped have finished this 20-minute long micro-movie all by themselves, involving in the process of whole production from directing, filming to acting.

“Twinkling Stars Landed on Earth – the Stories of Autistic People” is based on the story of three autistic students. The movie has vividly illustrated the daily-life and learning situation of these autistic students, which deepened general public’s understanding of autism, while encouraging family members of autistic people to seek help as soon as possible. The premiere of this moving micro-movie is part of the “Love in the Community” series, a community education programme about autistic people in Macau throughout 2017-2018. By bringing about this project, BLANC ART Gallery hopes to encourage the public to acknowledge the place of autistic people in our society.
Autism is a developmental disorder characterized by troubles with social interaction and communication, often there is also restricted and repetitive behavior. As shown in “Twinkling Stars Landed on Earth- the Stories of Autistic People”, the prevention and treatment of autism are equally important, which should be aware by not only at individual level, but also the whole society. Autistic people need a wide range of assistance in daily life, ranging from medical and educational support to home-caring service. This causes a high level of pressure on people around them, both mentally and financially. Therefore, the birth control of autistic population is also an important measure, which is always neglected but can be undertaken through the cooperation of government and the public.
After this screening, there will be a series of community works in collaboration with schools, commercial organisations and the government to share the current situation of autistic people in Macau, raising further attention to help autistic people to fit into our community. LA Art Show 2018 | BLANC ART Gallery Curated “Madly Dummified” Has Successfully Come to an End
Taken place from January 10th to 14th, LA Art Show 2018 has successfully came to an end. BLANC ART Gallery has proudly presented Macanese contemporary artist Rusty Fox (Wang Lap Wong), with his “Dummy” photography series, which were well-received and appreciated by visitors worldwide.

Presented with the theme “Madly Dummified” in LA Art Show, Rusty’s new series of work “Dummy” shows how Rusty penetrates through the crowd of carefree people who lost themselves in the world of intoxication and drugs, attempting to see through their eyes and capture their absent-minded souls. He couldn’t help but seeing these people as a crowd of bewitched manikins, whom he can hardly sense the soul of a human being in this delirious moment. Remarkably, Rusty Fox employs an old way of photo-editing, replacing some of the facial features of these subjects with their own skin in the photos. He transformed the subjects into a new form of creatures – ones that resembles the manikins behind the shop windows – whose lack of expression contrasted with the remaining gestures. If audiences look closely, the “new mask” on their faces are not perfectly smooth; this is their authentic appearance in Rusty’s eyes.
As Rusty addressed, “to see but not with the eyes, all judgements would stay in the dark, repeating uproar in the human world has no reason to listen.” Rusty’s artworks encourage his audience to discover the ordinary in the extraordinary truth, looking beyond the surface to interpret the message hidden beneath- they are therefore engaging to the viewers by allowing the images to speak for themselves.

Rusty Fox is a contemporary artist with a focus in documentary photography, started with scientific and biological photography while embarking on projects featured on urban life recently. Based in Macau, Rusty Fox has stayed in the UK for over 10 years, during which he graduated in BA in Photography at University of East London and MA in Documentary Photography at University of South Wales, Newport, UK. His MA course was founded by Magnum Photos member David Hurn while he has studied with Mark Durden, a scholar and critics of contemporary photography with a rich foundation in fine art. Rusty’s art pieces have been exhibited worldwide, including Paris Photo, Diffusion, Belfast, RPS Photography Festivals in UK and Pingyao International Photography Festival in China. His photobook BRutAL (2016) was collected by the University of Oxford and Cambridge, and three national libraries across UK.
“Scape Vogue – Mandy Liao and Nissa Kauppila Exhibition” NOW ON | Mandy is collaborating with Harper’s Bazaar on a cross-sector creative art project
Scape Vogue showcases a number of works by two contemporary female artists, Mandy Liao (Liao Man) and Nissa Kauppila. Mandy and Nissa were brought up at two different ends on earth. However, their artworks are like two sides of the same coin- infusing both Eastern and Western features. Born in the United States, Nissa is greatly attracted to the layers produced by ink. “Nature” is the leitmotiv in her works, while she is remarkably adventurous in the use of colour- her contemporary edge of colours using adds to the life she is limning. To her, every stage of life can be captured in her paintings; Every creature comes to life in her ink- be it a shriveling flower, or a bird in still.

On the other hand, Mandy’s inspirations come mostly from urban daily life. Her works unveil the contradicting reality she observed in her surrounding; Through the use of cold tone and deep strokes of paint, Mandy creates a sense of tranquility in her oil painting. It acts as a soundless yet powerful voice that tells the stories of millions of lives in society, resonating with each and every one of us.

In addition, thanks to her enchanting artistic language, Mandy is recently invited to collaborate with Harper’s Bazaar on a cross-sector creative art project, featuring on five established Chinese female celebrities of our time. The five female celebrities will be photographed with Mandy’s latest artworks, sharing their wisdom as a modern woman of our age through a creative approach to photography and paintings. Are you ready for the LA Art Show 2018? BLANC ART Gallery proudly presents Rusty Fox (Wang Lap Wong), a Macanese contemporary artist, in the upcoming LA Art Show, taking place from January 10th to 14th.
Rusty Fox is a contemporary documentary photographer, started with a focus in scientific and biological photography while embarking on projects featured on urban life recently. He was raised in a city; his personality is shaped by his upbringing within it. He is always concerned with the balance and the imbalance he finds in the city- the relationship between living organism and inanimate objects, which has hugely influenced his perception of urban life. To him, most people who live in this city are like walking machines- numb and soulless. He questions through his artwork: What makes the subjects living in a city different from a slice of meat or a robot?

Miami Art Week 2017 Coming Soon
This winter, an exciting wave of contemporary art is rocking the coast of Miami, with more than 20 prolific art fairs, including ArtBasel Miami Beach, Scope Miami and Design Miami/ and Fringe Art Fair, all occurring in the Miami Art Week starting from December 4th. Miami visitors can soon enjoy the sunny beach along with the dynamic flow of art shows. For you who might not be able to join this energetic week along the Atlantic coast this December, BLANC ART is here to take you onto a virtual tour of the seminal art events!
1. ArtBasel Miami Beach 2017 (Miami Beach Convention Center, Dec 7th – 10th)
In their upcoming 15th edition Miami Beach show, ArtBasel is going to bring together both old and new forces in the modern and contemporary art scene, with a good selection of eight different exhibition sectors that can fulfill audiences of every kind. Apart from the “Galleries” sector that showcases a wide range of artworks by over 4,000 artists, including paintings, sculptures, installations, photography, film and digital art, ArtBasel has also designed multiple special sectors for ambitious new talents, independent curators, critics and art historians to show their talent.
The New Wave: Nova & Position
For those who want to dig out the most up-to-date artworks by new talent, “Nova” and “Position” are the sector to be. The “Nova” sector is designed for galleries to present up to three artists’ works created within the last three years, featuring strong juxtapositions and never-before-seen pieces fresh from the artist’s studio such as dépendance from Belgium and Silvia Cintra + Box 4 from Brazil. On the other hand, the “Position” sector is a platform for independent artists to present one major project, an outstanding participant being the Antenna Space from Shanghai, which have been in ArtBasel twice this year already. This is a great opportunity for curators, critics and collectors to discover new gem.
Looking Back: Survey
When we cherish and look for new talent, we should never forget it all starts from the past. “Survey” presents precise art historical projects. These may include solo presentations by an individual artist, juxtapositions and thematic exhibits from artists representing a range of cultures, generations and artistic approaches. If you want to learn more about the beginning of these phenomenal contemporary artworks, watch out for this sector!
Getting Outdoor: Public and Film
Art is everywhere, it should not be limited in the exhibition halls. Therefore ArtBasel is going to display ambitious large‐scale artworks, films and performances as part of the city’s outdoor landscape at nearby Collins Park and SoundScape Park. Outdoor screenings are going to take place at SoundScape Park, where selected dynamic program of films are shown on the 7,000-square-foot projection wall of the Frank Gehry-designed New World Center.
2. Scope Miami 2017 (801 Ocean Drive, Dec 5th – 10th)
Featuring 140 International Exhibitors from 25 countries and 60 cities, SCOPE Miami Beach will welcome over 55,000 visitors over the course of 6 days. As a highlight, SCOPE has invited Felipe Pantone to create a site-specific installation for the Atrium of its Miami Beach Pavilion. Pantone will hand-paint hundreds of conduits to create a three-dimensional gradient computer glitch. Pantone approaches this work as humble attempt to combine imagery from the 21st century with the structural innovations established by the Venezuelan master Soto in the 60’s. Juxtaposed against a serene ocean backdrop, Chromadynamica Dimensional will greet visitors upon entry, and set the tone for a dynamic 18th edition of SCOPE Miami Beach.

3. Design Miami/ 2017 (Meridian Avenue & 19th Street, Dec 6th – 10th)
Design Miami/ is more than a marketplace for design, where the world’s top galleries gather to present museum-quality exhibitions of twentieth and twenty-first century furniture, lighting and objets d’art. Each show balances exclusive commercial opportunities with progressive cultural programming, creating exciting collaborations with designers and design institutions, panels and lectures with luminaries from the worlds of design, architecture, art and fashion, and unique commissions from the world’s top emerging and established designers and architects.
This year, a new exhibition platform Design Curio is coming to Design Miami/, inviting designers, curators, innovators and gallerists to present cabinets of curiosity throughout the fair. Each Curio reveals a total environment of objects, textures, artifacts and ideas that challenge and contextualize familiar design narratives.The Curios are interspersed amongst Design Miami/’s core galleries, infusing the fair’s exhibition program with inventive snapshots of today’s design landscape.

4. John Dunkley: Neither Day nor Night Exhibition (PÉREZ Art Museum Miami, now through Jan 14th 2018)
This exhibition presents the work of John Dunkley (b. 1891, Savanna-la-Mar, Jamaica; d. 1947, Kingston), widely considered to be one of Jamaica’s most important historical artists. John Dunkley: Neither Day nor Night will include paintings from the 1930s and 40s alongside a smaller selection of carved-wood and stone sculptures. Dunkley’s paintings are defined by their distinctive dark palette, detailed imagery—often landscapes––and psychologically suggestive underpinnings. His intimate sculptures reflect more figurative elements—people and animals—and offer insights into his unique iconography. Although his work is well represented in the collection of the National Gallery of Jamaica, Kingston, as well as in international private collections, Dunkley has not been the focus of a solo exhibition since the 1970s, and never before outside Jamaica. This exhibition represents a unique opportunity to bring together a substantial grouping of his work and to create an international context for its study.

Scape Vogue – Mandy Liao (Liao Man) and Nissa Kauppila’s first joint exhibition in Macau
As Mandy Liao (Liao Man) and Nissa Kauppila’s first joint exhibition in Macau, Scape Vogue will showcase a selection of the two artists’ finest work from 16th December to 15th January. The private preview will be held on December 15th at 5 pm in BLANC ART exhibition room.
Mandy and Nissa were immersed in two distinct cultural environment, being brought up in Asia and North America respectively. Yet their artworks share a similarity in the infusion of both Eastern and Western characteristics, marking the emergence of “global village” in our era. Interestingly, born and raised in the US, Nissa paints mostly with ink like in Chinese traditional paintings, focusing on illustrating natural landscapes; In contrast, growing up in China, Mandy majors in oil paintings, in which she depicts the social climate in Chinese community.
“Nature” is the recurring theme in Nissa’s works. Born in Monkton, a small town in Vermont, she spent most of her childhood in nature. Mountains and woods become her muses, with flowers and birds being her favourite subject matters. To her, every stage of life can be captured on the canvas. Through her colourful ink wash paintings, she uncovers the life cycle that these spirits go through. In contrast, Mandy’s inspirations come mostly from daily life, expressing the “humanity” she lives upon. Although her works also incorporate natural elements, she handles them in a totally different manner as compared to Nissa. She tends to project the subjects through her subjective lens, emphasizing the stance as a human. Her works often express a dark humour, challenging the reality through her distinctive surrealist style.
Both Nissa and Mandy are observant of and inspired by their surroundings, with great sensitivity to “life”, the common topic in their artworks. It is only different in the approach they are narrating the stories, and the experiences they gathered in their own life. As the very first joint exhibition of these two talented artists, it is a beautiful coincident that it is taking place in Macau, the melting pot of Eastern and Western cultures. This winter, the flourishing art of life sweeps across this city, growing and spreading through the land of Scape Vogue.
ART OSAKA celebrates 15th Anniversary: Blanc Art showcases the finest artworks by four artists
ART OSAKA 2017 will have a preview on 7th July and will be held on the weekend of 8th and 9th July on the 26th floor, Hotel Granvia Osaka. As one of the biggest art fairs in Japan and focusing on contemporary art, ART OSAKA is celebrating its 15th anniversary. This year, 54 galleries will showcase their incredible artworks in 64 hotels rooms. ART OSAKA uses Hotel Granvia as a venue to showcase the artworks to make an atmosphere of feeling at home.
As one of the exhibitors, Blanc Art will proudly present the incredible works from Choi Su Weng, Justin Y , João Jorge Magalhães (SAH) and Silvère Jarrosson, with the theme 「Stream of Consciousness」 in Room 6007.
With literary and psychological influences from Dorothy Richardson and William James respectively, the concept of the stream of consciousness depicts the multitudinous thoughts and feelings which pass through the individual’s mind. The train of thoughts begin with a person’s reaction to certain events, and gradually creates an arrangement of thoughts to find connections between their interpretations and the event. Each artist opens the conversation between the individual and their understanding of the artwork, thus the uninterrupted flow of thoughts in the conscious mind centers around the reaction of an individual towards the artwork.
Although contrasting in artistic styles, the four artists have mastered their according discipline giving the audience the capacity for self-interpretation. Choi conveys his feelings of his beloved hometown on the canvas. Justin Y uses the acrylic on his fingers to document his state of mind. With his Portuguese heritage and Macanese identity, Magalhães records the old Macau. With his expertise in physical movements. Jarrosson’s dripping technique is one of a kind and his works triggers the sentiments of the viewers. Ideation is defined as the formation of ideas and concepts, and these artist presents pieces that let the audience drift into their own train of thought, opening a wonder of possibilities to relate to the artwork.
Monologue——Omar Saadoune’s First Solo Exhibition in Macau
As Omar Saadoune’s first solo exhibition in Macau, Monologue will showcase a selection of Saadoune’s finest work from 23rd June to 26th August, the opening of the exhibition will be held in the Blanc Art exhibition room at 6PM on 30th June.
Born in Morocco and graduated from the National Institute of Fine Arts in Tetouan, Omar Saadoune has always been passionate about art, and especially interested in the physical form of arts. His paintings are bold and appealing; the combination of arcs and lines form the basic structure of most of his work, colours are then dripped painted onto the canvas, creating an unspeakable tension. In his work “Human”, a human skull was used as the center subject with paint dripped all over. The skull resembles the humanity and society, the vibrant complex splashes and spots mirrors the cosmopolitan society, both the good and the bad. However, it is precisely due to the diversity that is been offered by the society, humanity is often neglected. Saadoune suggests that the cosmopolitan society is built on the humanity of the society. Without the substantial base, colours will not be able to be built on the canvas, just as society would not be able to be truly successful.
The artist challenges the boundary of the traditional visual art, through painting, multimedia work, film and live performance, Saadoune is constantly touching on the pressing matter in the society – the oppressed humanity, the conflicts and the future direction of humanity. Every painting is like a solo performance of the artist, conveying his idea through the lively images; Provoking the viewers, giving them a strong and refreshing visual impact; powerfully detailed and soothing, inviting the viewers to see through his eyes. His works are filled with the primitive power of the natural African art; Unpretentious yet profound with his powerful individual voice.
